Digitally Printed Scubas & What To Sew With Scuba

I get asked so many times about scuba.

So whats the big deal about scuba then? And what even is scuba?

It is a relatively new dressmaking fabric but one that is causing a big stir! It's a thick jersey fabric, similar in weight to a sweatshirt. It has a smooth surface and looks fabulous with digitally printed designs on it.

The thickness of the fabric gives it a wonderful body and great drape making it perfect for either body con dresses or full skirts.

It is washable (at 30 degrees, don't tumble dry) and you can iron it on a low setting. I would recommend using a cloth when ironing it. Best of all as it doesn't fray there is no need to finish your seams and sometimes I don't even finish the hems just cut and go (Yay I'm all for a bit of 'lazy' sewing)

I have a Pinterest board full of scuba sewing ideas here. Scroll down to see our newest designs and my patterns recommendations for scuba. Just remember that if you are making a pattern designed for woven fabrics you may want to go down a size to allow for the give in the scuba.

We've got ALL the florals!

We've had sooo many floral fabrics arrive this week, it's like a bit like a florists in here!

Our original Chaffinch Bough was a top seller and I'm pretty sure this new cotton lawn in the Old Gold colourway will be just as popular! Imagine a cute blouse in this fabric. Or a dramatic Buchanan dressing gown.

Savannah cotton lawn with its large foliage and cheeky hummingbirds is a big contender for my favourite fabric of the week. I'm currently dreaming of a Helga playsuit to wear on my holiday.

The bright jade of this Flora Songbird cotton lawn is screaming out another jumpsuit to me, this time the Marigold, how awesome would this be at summer party??

This red lightweight crepe is not one for the wallflowers out there, make a big entrance in an Ansa Butterfly dress in this Scarlet cluster crepe.

Our navy Cindy viscose challis would be wonderful made in to the new Avid Seamstress pattern The Shift Dress.

Midnight bouquet cotton lawn would be the perfect wedding guest dress in a staple fit and flare. Try the Cashmerette Upton dress perfect for curvier ladies as it goes up to a US size 28 and has 3 bust sizes.

This soft powder blue Smoke Rose cotton lawn has a nostalgic feel to it, I think it would make beautiful bridesmaid's dresses for a summer country wedding.

A lightweight viscose twill Mugi is your perfect floral shirtdress fabric. With so many new options launched recently take your pick (my choice would be the Matilda - those pockets!!)

Pretty birds and blossoms on a dusky pink background Spring Serenade cotton lawn, pretty and girlie without crossing into saccharine. Make a Sudley dress and tough it up with big biker boots.
